Craft elevated to Luxury for Home Décor and Fashion Accessories. Not Merely Possessed. Prized.
A snowflake. A fingerprint. A Bindah.

What is a Bindah? It is a totally original work of art and yes, no two are exactly alike. Coming to you not just from an Indonesian woman's hands, but her heart. The painstaking yet joyous result of months of her life. Fashioned one piece at a time in a village, not a factory. Perfection is the deadline. Absolute beauty, the quota. Behold skill and artistry demonstrated at a level seldom seen in our times.

Functional Art. Each Bindah consists of a hand woven basket made of the ata vine and detailed with hand sewn glass beads. Centuries old Indonesian artisan traditions have been cultivated and combined with global attitude to showcase usable art for home décor and fashion. Strong and beautiful at the same time. Why not?

One dewy morning as I strolled through one of the more remote villages in Bali, I came across an intricately beaded basket. It was small...fist sized...but the colors and motif continued to draw me closer to look at the detail. I was so fascinated by it that I felt almost powerless not to collect it. Alas it was not to be as this small piece was part of a family tradition and heritage for the local children. I was able to collect another small and painfully intricate box which I sent to my father. Like me, he was enthralled by the craftsmanship.

Determined to find learn more about the work and the artists behind it, I found myself back in that very same village visiting the artists homes as they crafted their wares with their children playing at their feet. I felt I was in the presence of an unbroken chain that had begun centuries ago. I knew that I simply had to play a part in it. I knew that I wanted to support these family circles and given women the freedom to do their craft wherever they chose.

Bindah was born.

Fashion. Make a fashion statement with Bindah jewelry, purses or handbags. The exquisite design and craftsmanship make these one-of-a-kind fashion accessories prized to behold, and admired by others.

A 700-year old art. Talk about timeless design.
The birth of a Bindah begins with a handwoven basket consisting of the ata vine or rattan from the Island of Lombok or the village of Tenganan in Bali. The village of Tenganan is a settlement that pre-dates Hinduism and is home to the Bali Aga people, the original Balinese. This is a place of unchanging tradition and ritual upheld by a fervent pride in the magic that hands can produce when given the devotion of time and love. A single ata vine can be separated up to 6 times to provide a rich woven canvas for every Bindah.

A Bindah gains color and individual personality as glass beads are hand sewn onto the woven canvas by women in their individual homes throughout the small villages in Java, Bali, and Sumatra. A small piece may take 1 day to bead. Larger pieces can take 9 months to complete. This is simply "Art from the Heart" and personality takes shape each day the artist works.

A Bindah is original, intricate, and timeless.

Gift Giving. Give the gift of Bindah and you're simultaneously helping an Indonesian artist improve the quality of life. Bindah gifts are the perfect one-of-a-kind gift for that one-of-a-kind friend or loved one.

Bindah Vision. Our vision is to create economic opportunities for Indonesian women artisans and to give them international recognition for their beautiful works of art. Bindah pieces are created by women in rural villages enabling them to create from their home with their children close at hand.

We applaud these talented and patient artisans who spent countless hours, days, and months creating the uniquely perfect Bindahs you see on this website. It is our honor to promote Bindah to the global audience!
